The best way to discover Ronda and area
The white town of Ronda features as one of the top sights in Andalusia in many guidebooks and if you’ve already visited it, you’ll know exactly why. At Guide to Malaga, we already showcase Ronda as one of the best day trips from the city, but what’s the best way to discover Ronda and area?
We think a Ronda mini-break ticks this box since it gives you the chance to explore the town and its magnificent surroundings while spending more time in this stunning part of the Costa del Sol. Read on to discover why this kind of break could be the perfect complement to your holiday in Malaga.
Soak up the sights
Ronda itself is something of a jewel in the provincial crown. But along with its spectacular gorge position, lovely churches and typically Andalusian streets and squares, Ronda also offers a unique location.

You get a good idea of just how unique this location is from the many viewing points in the town itself. And yes, all those majestic mountains, white villages and rolling hills are worth visiting.
You might be surprised to discover that Ronda and area are home to vineyards and some of Andalusia’s oldest bodegas. There are also several ancient caves in the vicinity, containing prehistoric remains, cave paintings and extraordinary stalactites and stalagmites.

Mix up your transport
Of course, you can see the sights as you drive around them, but we think the best way to discover Ronda and area is to combine your travel means. Take a guided walking tour around Ronda to learn all the secrets of the “Ciudad Soñada” (City of Dreams). Then, cycle to a destination to discover an iconic white village (or two). Think Setenil de las Bodegas, Olvera, Zahara de la Sierra… Then enjoy a cave visit to round off your mini-break.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, Andalusian finest cities such as Cadiz, Granada, Jerez and Seville are all within cycling reach. And don’t forget that a cycling mini-break in Ronda and area doesn’t have to be strenuous at all. You can choose the free-wheeling option and go electric. Or, if you’d rather power the wheels all by yourself, you can pick a route that involves as little gradient as possible.
Travel off the beaten track
As Guide to Malaga fans know, we’re all in favour of the route less travelled. We truly believe that you need to get away from the beaten tourist trail to discover the true essence of a destination. A mini-break in Ronda does just that and takes you off the trodden track and leads you into a world where few tourists (or even locals!) venture.

There are dozens of minor roads and trails around Ronda and area. All are ideal for walking and/or cycling and well away from the busy highways (where most tourists are).
Experience the real Ronda
The leisurely pace of a min-break also allows you to take in the scenery in your own time. And savour the local food and culture as you go. If you’re cycling or walking, daily distances are always manageable. For example, 10-20km on foot or 20-45km by bike, so you can include as many pitstops as you like.
