Go by public transport – get the bus from Malaga to Nerja. The service is frequent and it takes around an hour. To get to Frigiliana, you’ll need to get the local bus there (and back) from Nerja. This option is cheap, but not so flexible and you won’t have a guide to show you the highlights.

Join a coach tour – jump on the coach in Malaga and visit the two centres during the day. An all-inclusive tour includes a guide, so you’ll see the main sights, but you’re restricted to the group’s timetables and there’ll be 40+ of you.

Drive yourself – rent a car in Malaga and make your own way eastwards. This option gives you flexibility and the drive is scenic. Just be prepared for winding mountain roads on the way to Frigiliana. This option is self-guided, so there’s no guarantee you’ll see the best sights.
