The city has a proper philharmonic orchestra, a theatre owned by Antonio Banderas, a flamenco scene that runs year-round, a world-class jazz festival, and enough rock venues to keep you out until 4am. Whether you’re here for a weekend or you live down the road, there’s something on most nights — and most of it is cheaper than you’d expect.

Where to hear classical live music in Malaga
Cervantes Theatre
The city’s main theatre (with great acoustics) is home to the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra who offer monthly concerts from September to June. The programme usually takes in the biggest names in classical music and also includes choral pieces at Christmas and Easter.
Tickets usually start at a very affordable €12 (for the lofty seats right up at the top) up to €80.
Top tip: the theatre holds several music festivals throughout the year, with discounts available if you buy more than one ticket for concerts.

Sala Maria Cristina
This lovely concert hall to the north of the old quarter holds regular classical concerts throughout the year. They tend to feature city and provincial orchestras and musical groups, mostly instrumental but also the occasional choral repertoire plus a smattering of jazz. Tickets from €12.
Top tip: you can visit the concert hall 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday free of charge.

Museo Jorge Rando
This modern art museum tucked away to the north of the old quarter holds concerts during the year, often in the patio. Expect chamber music and choral pieces in a lovely setting. Free entry.
Top tip: don’t miss the lovely Salamanca market opposite.

Teatro Soho
Owned and managed by Antonio Banderas, Teatro Soho has a year-round programme of music, theatre and dance. The Soho Philharmonic Orchestra plays regularly at the theatre, which offers comfortable seating (almost all seats have great views of the stage) and excellent acoustics.
Top tip: Teatro Soho puts on at least one musical a year, often produced by Banderas himself. For example, Grease took to the stage in 2025 and Tootsie is on in 2026.

Where to hear international and Spanish artists in Malaga
Malaga attracts big names on both the international and Spanish music scene. Concerts take place at several venues around the city including the Cervantes Theatre (see above), the Palacio de Deportes Martín Carpena and outdoors during big events, particularly Malaga Fair.

Where to hear jazz in Malaga
Malaga has a thriving jazz scene, particularly at grassroots level.The city has several good local jazz bands and a few venues where you can here live sessions.
Bon Bon Jazz Bar combines a jazz soundtrack with films, comedy and literature. The Piano Jazz Club takes place from 9.30pm Monday to Saturday – check the programme here.

For the best jazz in town, time your holiday with the annual Malaga Jazz Festival. It takes place over 10 days in November, with a full round-up of the best singers and players. Concerts take place at the Cervantes Theatre, but there are also free jazz performances around the city during the Festival.

Where to hear beachside live music in Malaga
Listening to a band play as you enjoy lunch, dinner or just a drink next to the sea is something pretty special. Several venues by the sea in Malaga have regular live music sessions:
El Balneario de los Baños del Carmen
You’re right by the sea at the city’s historic bathhouses (when the surf’s up the waves splash right in!). Regular concerts from local groups take place throughout the year, usually at weekends. Check the programme here. Free entry but you have to buy a drink and/or food.

Kaleido
About half-way down the Pergola, this bar/restaurant offers port-side live music at weekends, usually from 5pm. Bands tend to be local, with a max of three musicians and/or singer.

Where to hear live pop rock in Malaga
If your thing is pop rock, you’ve also got a good choice in Malaga where the following venues offer regular live music concerts in this genre.
La Cochera Cabaret
This venue, on the west side of Malaga, is known for its lively atmosphere and wide range of performances, from indie bands to flamenco nights via stand-up comedy and theatre acts. Concerts typically start at 9pm and take place several times a week. Expect to pay from €10-25 per ticket. More information here.

Get to La Cochera Cabaret from the Alameda Principal on the metro (Line 1, change at Guadalmedina and take Line 2 to Puerta Blanca) or on the No 3 bus (get off at the south end of Avenida de los Guindos). Allow around 15 minutes for the journey.
La Trinchera
If you’re a fan of rock and/or alternative music, this is the concert hall for you in Malaga. This gritty, industrial-style venue is known for rock, heavy metal, and punk acts. It hosts Spanish and international bands, and tribute concerts are common. Several events weekly, with ticket prices starting at €15. More information here.

Get there on the No 20 or C2 bus from the Alameda Principal. Allow around 30 minutes to get there.
Sala Paris 15
A bit out of the way this venue but worth the trip if you’re a dedicated fan of the group playing. The vibe leans towards heavy rock – think Avatar and Michael Schenker – but not always. Find out more here.

Get to Sala Paris 15 on the No 19 bus from the Alameda Principal. Allow about 35 minutes for the journey, including a 6-minute walk at the end.
ZZ Pub
Something of a classic (they’ve been holding daily concerts here since 1991!), this loud and brash venue right in the city centre has something every single evening (from 10pm or midnight). Rock and blues nights take place on Thursdays with pop joining the rock on Fridays. Saturdays are reserved for different groups, usually playing pop rock. Full details here.

Top tip: all the above are small venues so if there’s a must-see concert get there early or book a ticket.
Where to hear salsa in Malaga
And dance it too since it’s difficult to listen to salsa and not get up on your feet.
Chiquita Cruz is the best venue for salsa and Latino live music in Malaga. This atmospheric Cuban-style club offers weekly salsa, bachata, merengue and reggaeton concerts, usually from Friday to Sunday evenings. You also get the chance to learn the moves.

Where to hear flamenco in Malaga
And last but not least, the most typically Andalusian music – flamenco. Malaga has a lively flamenco scene with several venues offering reasonably authentic shows.
Alegría Flamenco
This venue, a few steps away from the Pompidou Centre, has regular flamenco performances, featuring local talent, usually a singer, two dancers and a guitarist. There are three shows daily, with the option to dine in. Ticket prices start at €25. Buy a ticket now.

Cervantes Theatre and Soho Theatre
The city’s main theatres both include flamenco (recitals, song and dance) in their annual calendar. Both have mini flamenco festivals in the spring and the Danza Málaga Festival at the Cervantes Theatre in the autumn has several flamenco dance performances.
Vino Mio Restaurant
This Dutch-run restaurant on the same square at the Cervantes Theatre including a flamenco show as part of the evening dining experience, at least twice a week. Booking essential. Find out more here.

Flamenco festivals
Several festivals take place during the year:
Bienal de flamenco
A provincial celebration of flamenco that takes place in spring every two years (the next are in 2027 and 2029). Malaga city is the main focal point for concerts and shows, many of which are free.
Flamenco Festival
An annual event in late June/early July, which focuses on flamenco masterclasses. However, there are also free concerts in Calle Alcazabilla and the Auditorio Edgar Neville.
Monthly flamenco concert
There’s a free concert, usually the last Monday of the month, between September and July, in the MVA Auditorium on Calle Ollerías.
