Marisquería Málaga Doramar

As any visitor to the city knows, Malaga is famed for its fresh fish and seafood. Fried fish (pescaíto) is a discovery for tourists and a favourite staple with locals. Marisquería Málaga Doramar is one of the best fish and seafood restaurants in Malaga, offering fresh produce, cooked to perfection.

What’s on the menu at Marisquería Málaga Doramar?

This restaurant has been working its magic with pescaíto and seafood for over 25 years, and is, unsurprisingly, a firm favourite with locals. The owner, Rafael, carefully selects the catch of the day at Malaga markets and displays it at the entrance to the restaurant, ready for chef Antonio to cook.

Seafood ranges from shells – Malaga delicacies include conchas finas (pink clams) and coquinas (cockles) to shrimps of different sizes (quisquillas from Motril on the nearby Granada coast are a must-try), langoustines and crayfish. Small fish for the famous pescaíto include boquerones (anchovies – fried or preserved in vinegar), red mullet and whitebait. Plus there are the usual squid, little squid (calamaritos) and octopus.

Marisquería Málaga Doramar also cook larger fish, all fresh, to order. Choose your favourite from the cool cabinet and enjoy it in grilled or fried.

There’s also a good range of non-fried fish or shellfish. You could try one of the tartares (tuna or avocado and shrimp); the salads that include the classic roasted red pepper; or the grilled artichokes.

As you’d expect in a typical Malaga restaurant, starters also include gazpachuelo in the winter and rice dishes such as a classic paella and arroz caldoso (soupy rice) with seafood.

Inside, the ambience is typically Spanish, with crisp white tablecloths lending a slightly formal air, although no one will mind when you eat your pescaíto with your fingers rather than knife and fork. Or you can sit outside on the pleasant pavement terrace.
