Booking accommodation for a group isn’t easy because of limited availability and high rates. However, there are some good deals for groups in Malaga hotels. Try these:

Alcazaba Premium Hotel – right in the centre, so handy for plenty of group activities. You can also enjoy the roof terrace. Budget prices.

Atarazanas Boutique Hotel – also in the centre, with activities on its doorstep. It’s also reasonably large, so there should be availability. Mid-range prices.

Hotel Catalonia Malaga – on the west side of town, but with a good bus service into the centre. Beach on the doorstep and plenty of rooms. Mid-range prices.

Ibis Malaga Centro – the city centre is just over the bridge. Mid-range prices.

Hilton Garden Inn – slightly out of town, but there are good public transport connections near by. Handy for the airport. Mid-range prices.

NH Malaga – handy for the city centre and a large hotel, with group rooms available. Nice rooftop pool too. Mid-range prices.

Best group activities in Malaga for younger people 

In this section, we recommend things to do together for a younger crowd, think 18 to 35. But these suggestions are equally valid if you’re young at heart and reasonably active.  

Segway tour around Malaga 

Imagine whizzing around the city’s sights on a 2-wheeled platform and learning about Malaga’s history and traditions while you drive your own Segway. Several companies provide Segway tours in Malaga and all offer fun experiences.

Caminito del Rey

The Caminito del Rey is an iconic hiking trail near Malaga, famous for its dramatic pathways suspended along the steep cliffs of the El Chorro Gorge. Once considered one of the world’s most dangerous walks, the restored trail now provides a stunning and adrenalin-packed experience for visitors.

The hike stretches over 7km, with panoramic views of rugged mountains, deep canyons, and sparkling reservoirs.

Need to know

Surfing in Malaga

You might be surprised to read that Malaga has a deep-rooted surf culture that began in Pedregalejo in the 1970s when the lack of breakwaters meant big waves were common. As a result, Spain’s first surf club was established in Malaga in 1974.

Nowadays, Malaga’s Mediterranean coastline isn’t one of the best for surfing because the waves are almost always too gentle. However, the calmer water is great for beginners catching their first wave and excellent for paddle surf newbies or pros.

Malaga is famous for its glorious sunsets and one of the best places to see them against the city skyline is from the sea. Beer Tasting at La Fábrica Cruzcampo

Fancy discovering how Spanish beer is made and then trying the different sorts? If so, you’ll all enjoy La Fábrica Cruzcampo in the Soho district, one of the funkiest bars in Malaga. 

Need to know

You have a guided tour of the factory’s microbrewery and its beer-production installations. You then try four types of Cruzcampo beer. Allow one hour for the tour. See Malaga on an e-bike tour

If you’ve ever ridden an e-bike you’ll know it’s a breeze compared to a regular bicycle, which is why we think a Malaga e-bike tour is a great choice for an older group. And this tour also comes with an optional climb, so you can test your quads or the maximum speed on your bike.

The tour takes you away from the city, glide north past the Botanical Gardens where you’ll catch a glimpse of one of the reservoirs and then into the Montes de Malaga. This verdant area has lush pine forests and great views of Malaga and the Mediterranean.

Just slightly west from Malaga is the Sierra de Mijas mountain range, a great place to try one of the best family activities – an off-road buggy tour. Need to know

Allow around 2 hours for the buggy tour led by expert instructors for a safe experience. If you’re driving, you’ll need a valid driving licence and all participants need to take photographic ID. Children must be at least 7 and 1.20m tall.

How to get to this activity

The buggy starts and ends in Mijas Costa, just north of Fuengirola to the west of Malaga. You can get there easily on public transport – take the M-113 bus from Muelle Heredia in the city centre (just outside the main entrance to the Port) and get off at the Rotonda Ford stop in Fuengirola. You then walk 20 mins to the buggy tour headquarters. Allow about an hour.

See Malaga and a cave by electric car

One of the best eco-friendly ways to see Malaga is by electric car. The two-seater vehicles are easy to drive as well as fun – they’re practically toy-sized! In addition, the tour takes you to nearby Rincón de la Victoria to explore the Cueva del Tesoro, one of the loveliest caves in the area.
